While the overall crime rate in Jacksonville has been falling, the murder rate remains unacceptably high.  As the homicide rate in Jacksonville is a community-wide problem, it requires a community-wide response.  Possible factors underlying the homicide rate include domestic violence, drug trafficking and use, and violent criminal activity.  Other issues may include lack of quality employment opportunities and chronic unemployment, educational problems such as high school dropouts, persistent multigenerational poverty, and housing concerns.

Each murder in Jacksonville is unacceptably tragic.  In addition, the rate of homicides casts a shadow across all efforts to improve the quality of life in Jacksonville.

The goal of this study is to develop a strategy to decrease the rate of homicides in Jacksonville.
