Afesa Adams chaired this effort to meet the needs of teen mothers, leading to the formation of the Jacksonville Alliance for the Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancy, a new school health education curriculum, and new legislation increasing penalities for adults having sex with minors. Results of Advocacy efforts:
- Jacksonville Alliance for the Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancy formed.
- Duval County School Board developed a new health education curriculum.
- Legislature passed bill that increased penalties for adults engaging in sex with minors.
- Rate of births of teen mothers dropped 20 percent between 1995 and 2000.
